About the Santa Cruz State Lifeguard Association

Who are we?

The Santa Cruz State Lifeguard Association (SCSLA) is a non-profit organization run by a volunteer board of active California State Parks Lifeguards based in the Santa Cruz District. Our membership includes a dedicated network of current and former State Lifeguards and other State Parks employees, all unified by a commitment to public safety, coastal stewardship, and lifesaving professionalism.

We exist to support our lifeguards both on and off duty—providing funding, advocacy, and resources that promote safety, training, wellness, and leadership. We are also proud to support the Santa Cruz Junior Lifeguard Program, helping to educate and inspire the next generation of ocean stewards and lifesavers.

Through fundraising, community events, outreach, and partnerships, the SCSLA works to enhance the impact of our lifeguards and strengthen the bond between the public and those who protect them along our coastline.

Mission

The Santa Cruz State Lifeguard Association is dedicated to supporting the professional development and well-being of California State Lifeguards while promoting ocean safety, lifesaving excellence, and community education. Through advocacy, outreach, and stewardship, we strengthen the connection between our beaches, lifeguards, and the public we serve.

Vision

To be a leading force in shaping a safer, more connected coastal community — where every lifeguard is empowered, every beachgoer is informed, and our shoreline thrives through service, education, and stewardship.
